Personal Training
One-on-one coaching for Marina clients, built around goals, schedule, training history, and current capacity.
Explore Personal TrainingBuild strength that complements Marina Green runs, Crissy Field miles, cycling, golf, skiing, and an active social schedule—with objective testing and Registered Dietitian support.
Custom Fit Hayes Valley at 323 Octavia Street is the recommended operating studio for many Marina clients.
The Marina makes movement easy to enjoy. Flat waterfront running, cycling toward the Presidio, fitness classes, recreational sports, and weekend trips keep many residents active year-round.
An active schedule can still leave gaps. Runners may lack upper-body and posterior-chain strength. Class-based training may not progress load systematically. Frequent travel or social commitments can turn consistency into an all-or-nothing cycle.
Custom Fit creates an individualized foundation. Your trainer coordinates strength, mobility, power, and conditioning around the activities you already enjoy. The plan can support race preparation, skiing, golf, tennis, cycling, surfing, or general body composition without treating every goal as identical.
DEXA, VO₂ max, RMR, gait analysis, and nutrition coaching can be added when they help answer a specific question. The value comes from using the measurement to improve the plan.
Custom Fit connects coaching with measurements and expert support so your training plan can evolve from evidence instead of assumptions. Service location is confirmed during booking.

Explore Recovery + Performance ↗Joining a nearby gym can provide equipment, but equipment alone does not decide what to train, how to progress, or how to adapt when life changes. Custom Fit gives Marina clients a coached process and a clear next step.
The process creates continuity between appointments. Your trainer knows what happened in the previous session, what needs to progress, and what should change when sleep, travel, work, soreness, or sport volume affects the week. That continuity also makes independent training more useful because the workout fits a larger phase instead of standing alone. Over time, the goal is to help you understand the program well enough to recognize progress, communicate useful feedback, and train with greater confidence. Coaching remains personalized, but it should also make the gym feel clearer and more accessible rather than mysterious. The same framework can continue through schedule changes, new goals, and different seasons of life without forcing you to restart from zero each time, with less friction and more useful feedback.
Discuss your training history, schedule, previous injuries, preferred activities, and what progress would actually look like. The team uses that information to recommend a coach and the most practical studio.
Depending on your needs, the starting point may include movement assessment, DEXA body composition, VO₂ max, RMR, or nutrition review. Testing is selected because it can guide a decision—not simply because it is available.
Your coach teaches the program, tracks load and repetitions, and adjusts exercises around recovery and real-world constraints. Independent sessions can be added when they improve consistency and confidence.
Progress is evaluated using the measures relevant to your goal: strength, consistency, body composition, aerobic fitness, movement quality, or performance outside the gym. The next phase is then built from evidence.

Custom Fit Hayes Valley is the recommended current studio for many Marina clients. Battery Street may become another practical option after opening, particularly from the eastern Marina and waterfront.
The 30 and express service connect the Marina with North Beach and downtown corridors. For Hayes Valley, use live routing that may involve Van Ness or a transfer.
Allow for Van Ness traffic and event congestion. Public garages near Civic Center can be more predictable than curb parking at Octavia.
Cycling to Hayes Valley can work well from the Marina. Plan secure parking and tell your trainer when the ride is part of the day’s training load.
Share races, ski trips, golf events, and other dates with your coach so training stress can be adjusted in advance.
One Custom Fit client began without identifying as a “gym person” and had never approached strength training seriously.
After working consistently with a coach, the client reported more energy, better runs, and improvement in health markers they had been trying to change. The structured environment made training feel more approachable.
Individual experiences vary, but the story reflects the broader purpose of strength work: improve the life and activities that happen beyond the session.
