Personal training for Inner Sunset

Turn everyday activity into a training plan that progresses.

Life in the Inner Sunset naturally includes a lot of movement. Golden Gate Park is next door, the neighborhood is walkable, and running or cycling can easily become part of the week. But being active and following a progressive training plan are not always the same thing.

Custom Fit helps Inner Sunset clients add structure to the activity they already enjoy. Your coach can organize strength, mobility, and conditioning around your schedule, current training experience, sport, and recovery needs. That means the gym supports your life instead of competing with it.

For a runner, the plan may emphasize calf capacity, hip strength, trunk control, and lifting volume that fits around mileage. For someone focused on body composition, resistance training and nutrition can be coordinated with repeat DEXA measurements. For a beginner, the first priority may simply be learning to train with confidence and proper technique.

Testing is available when it improves the decision-making process. VO₂ max can help individualize aerobic work, and DEXA can track lean and fat mass beyond the number on a scale. Every Custom Fit DEXA body-composition scan is completed by a Registered Dietitian or Exercise Physiologist.

A useful fitness plan does not ask you to give up the activities you enjoy. It builds the physical capacity to keep doing more of them.

How the process works

From first conversation to a program you can sustain.

Joining a nearby gym can provide equipment, but equipment alone does not decide what to train, how to progress, or how to adapt when life changes. Custom Fit gives Inner Sunset clients a coached process with continuity from one session to the next.

The process creates continuity between appointments. Your trainer knows what happened in the previous session, what needs to progress, and what should change when sleep, travel, work, soreness, or sport volume affects the week. That continuity also makes independent training more useful because the workout fits a larger phase instead of standing alone. Over time, the goal is to help you understand the program well enough to recognize progress, communicate useful feedback, and train with greater confidence. Coaching remains personalized, but it should also make the gym feel clearer and more accessible rather than mysterious. The same framework can continue through schedule changes, new goals, and different seasons of life without forcing you to restart from zero each time, with less friction and more useful feedback.

01

Define the real goal

Discuss your training history, schedule, previous injuries, preferred activities, and what progress would actually look like. The team uses that information to recommend a coach and the most practical studio.

02

Establish useful baselines

Depending on your needs, the starting point may include movement assessment, DEXA body composition, VO₂ max, RMR, or nutrition review. Testing is selected because it can guide a decision—not simply because it is available.

03

Train with progression

Your coach teaches the program, tracks load and repetitions, and adjusts exercises around recovery and real-world constraints. Independent sessions can be added when they improve consistency and confidence.

04

Review and adapt

Progress is evaluated using the measures relevant to your goal: strength, consistency, body composition, aerobic fitness, movement quality, or performance outside the gym. The next phase is then built from evidence.

A Custom Fit client story

From uncertainty around gym equipment to stronger, more confident training.

One Custom Fit client worked with a trainer for approximately half a year with a clear set of goals: become more confident using different machines, lift heavier while maintaining proper form, and reduce the risk of avoidable injury.

The program was adapted around the client’s schedule, preferences, needs, and abilities. Over time, the client reported significant progress and much greater confidence in the gym.

That progression captures an important part of the Custom Fit approach. Good coaching is not only about what happens during the appointment. It should help you understand training well enough to become more capable and confident over time.

Company-wide client example. Individual outcomes vary. Body-composition and performance testing should be interpreted in context and do not guarantee future results.
