Effective 2025, every personal training, partner training, and Tier 2 gym membership at Custom Fit SF includes unlimited DEXA body composition scans and VO₂ Max tests — at no additional cost.
No other gym in the United States offers this as a standard membership benefit. These are the tests that longevity clinics charge $150–$300 per session for. At Custom Fit SF, they're included every time you want them.
Why This Changes What a Gym Membership Can Do
A gym membership has historically been access to equipment and, if you're lucky, programming. The missing piece has always been feedback — objective data that tells you whether the programming is working, whether your body composition is actually changing, and whether your fitness is improving in the ways that matter for health.
Without testing, you're relying on how you feel, how you look, and what the scale says. These are imprecise instruments. They don't tell you whether you gained muscle or lost water. They don't tell you whether your aerobic capacity is improving or whether you're just getting better at the specific exercises you're doing.
Unlimited DEXA and VO₂ Max testing solves this. Your trainer sees your body composition data update after each testing period, your aerobic zones adjust as your fitness changes, and your program evolves in response to what the data shows — not what either of you assumes.

The Fourth San Francisco Location
Custom Fit SF is also opening its fourth San Francisco location in Downtown SF, expanding access to training, group classes, and diagnostic testing across the city. Combined with the original Hayes Valley studio at 1844 Market St and two additional locations, Custom Fit now has the most comprehensive footprint of performance and longevity testing in San Francisco.
What DEXA and VO₂ Max Testing Actually Reveals
Members who test regularly typically discover things that months of gym attendance hadn't shown them:
- Whether a fat loss phase is losing fat or losing muscle
- Whether a strength phase is actually adding lean tissue
- That their aerobic base is weaker (or stronger) than their training history suggested
- That regional fat — particularly visceral fat — is changing differently than total weight suggests
The data removes the ambiguity. When you know exactly what's changing and what isn't, you can make decisions about training and nutrition that are based on your actual physiology rather than general principles applied to a generic population.
Add-On Diagnostics Available to All Members
Beyond DEXA and VO₂ Max, Custom Fit SF members can add:
- Advanced bloodwork — reviewed by a registered dietitian, not just flagged against reference ranges
- Genetic testing — interpreted in the context of your fitness and nutrition goals
- RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) testing — your actual caloric baseline, not an estimate
- 3D Gait Analysis — for runners and anyone with movement-pattern concerns
- VALD Force Deck Testing — bilateral force production and asymmetry assessment
Start With a Baseline
The recommended entry point for new members is a Baseline Assessment: DEXA + VO₂ Max + RMR + initial consultation. This produces the data needed to build Phase 1 programming. From there, your program evolves with you — tested, measured, adjusted.
