Personal training for SoMa

A better training plan for a neighborhood that rarely slows down.

SoMa can make fitness feel convenient and inconsistent at the same time. There are offices, apartment buildings, running routes, boutique classes, and large gyms throughout the district, yet many people still struggle to build a program that progresses from one month to the next.

Custom Fit replaces random workouts with a coached plan. Your trainer starts with your goals, exercise history, previous injuries, work demands, and the amount of training you can realistically sustain. Sessions are then organized across weeks rather than improvised one day at a time.

That structure is especially useful for people balancing hybrid work, conferences, travel, long stretches at a desk, or irregular hours. A strong week may include two focused strength sessions, a short independent workout, and cardiovascular work that fits your schedule. A travel week may use a simpler minimum-effective plan that protects momentum.

The objective is not to make every session exhausting. It is to apply the right amount of strength, mobility, and conditioning work consistently enough to produce a measurable result.

Your coach handles the programming so you can arrive, train with purpose, and leave knowing how the session connects to the larger goal.

How the process works

From first conversation to a program you can sustain.

Joining a nearby gym can provide equipment, but equipment alone does not decide what to train, how to progress, or how to adapt when life changes. Custom Fit gives SoMa clients a coached process and a clear next step.

The process creates continuity between appointments. Your trainer knows what happened in the previous session, what needs to progress, and what should change when sleep, travel, work, soreness, or sport volume affects the week. That continuity also makes independent training more useful because the workout fits a larger phase instead of standing alone. Over time, the goal is to help you understand the program well enough to recognize progress, communicate useful feedback, and train with greater confidence. Coaching remains personalized, but it should also make the gym feel clearer and more accessible rather than mysterious. The same framework can continue through schedule changes, new goals, and different seasons of life without forcing you to restart from zero each time, with less friction and more useful feedback.

01

Define the real goal

Discuss your training history, schedule, previous injuries, preferred activities, and what progress would actually look like. The team uses that information to recommend a coach and the most practical studio.

02

Establish useful baselines

Depending on your needs, the starting point may include movement assessment, DEXA body composition, VO₂ max, RMR, or nutrition review. Testing is selected because it can guide a decision—not simply because it is available.

03

Train with progression

Your coach teaches the program, tracks load and repetitions, and adjusts exercises around recovery and real-world constraints. Independent sessions can be added when they improve consistency and confidence.

04

Review and adapt

Progress is evaluated using the measures relevant to your goal: strength, consistency, body composition, aerobic fitness, movement quality, or performance outside the gym. The next phase is then built from evidence.

A Custom Fit client story

From gym beginner to confident independent training.

One Custom Fit client began without a meaningful strength-training background and did not consider themselves a “gym person.” Coaching created a nonjudgmental introduction to foundational exercises and a program that progressed gradually.

During the first eight months, repeat DEXA scans showed a change from approximately 23% body fat to 16%. Just as important, the client developed enough knowledge and confidence to begin training independently twice each week while continuing to meet with a coach for guidance.

Individual outcomes vary, but the story reflects the goal of good coaching: build capability, not dependence.
