Personal training for Russian Hill

Daily hills build work. A complete program builds capacity with intention.

Russian Hill makes lower-body effort part of ordinary life. Walking to Polk, climbing home from the waterfront, carrying groceries, and navigating steep blocks can provide more activity than many city routines.

That activity is valuable, but it does not automatically train every movement pattern, muscle group, or energy system. It can also expose weaknesses in calf capacity, single-leg control, trunk strength, or recovery when volume increases suddenly.

Custom Fit adds deliberate progression. Your coach can build full-body strength, balance, mobility, and conditioning while accounting for the movement already built into your day. Training may support running, skiing, cycling, travel, body composition, or simply feeling more capable on stairs and hills.

The program is based on your starting point rather than the neighborhood’s fitness culture. Beginners can learn foundational movements; experienced clients can pursue more advanced strength and performance goals.

The hills are part of the training environment. Your coach helps make sure they are not the entire program.

How the process works

From first conversation to a program you can sustain.

Joining a nearby gym can provide equipment, but equipment alone does not decide what to train, how to progress, or how to adapt when life changes. Custom Fit gives Russian Hill clients a coached process and a clear next step.

The process creates continuity between appointments. Your trainer knows what happened in the previous session, what needs to progress, and what should change when sleep, travel, work, soreness, or sport volume affects the week. That continuity also makes independent training more useful because the workout fits a larger phase instead of standing alone. Over time, the goal is to help you understand the program well enough to recognize progress, communicate useful feedback, and train with greater confidence. Coaching remains personalized, but it should also make the gym feel clearer and more accessible rather than mysterious. The same framework can continue through schedule changes, new goals, and different seasons of life without forcing you to restart from zero each time, with less friction and more useful feedback.

01

Define the real goal

Discuss your training history, schedule, previous injuries, preferred activities, and what progress would actually look like. The team uses that information to recommend a coach and the most practical studio.

02

Establish useful baselines

Depending on your needs, the starting point may include movement assessment, DEXA body composition, VO₂ max, RMR, or nutrition review. Testing is selected because it can guide a decision—not simply because it is available.

03

Train with progression

Your coach teaches the program, tracks load and repetitions, and adjusts exercises around recovery and real-world constraints. Independent sessions can be added when they improve consistency and confidence.

04

Review and adapt

Progress is evaluated using the measures relevant to your goal: strength, consistency, body composition, aerobic fitness, movement quality, or performance outside the gym. The next phase is then built from evidence.

A new pathafter independent training had stopped producing progress
A Custom Fit client story

A coach found needs the client had not identified alone.

One Custom Fit client had years of experience managing sports and fitness independently. When life changed, the familiar strategies were no longer producing the same progress.

The coach kept the program simple and effective, introducing training that addressed needs the client had not recognized. The client described the guidance as instrumental in moving forward.
