Personal training for Mission Bay

Fitness data is useful only when it changes the plan.

Mission Bay is surrounded by health systems, research, technology, professional sports, and waterfront recreation. It is a neighborhood where people are often comfortable with data—but fitness data can still become a collection of numbers without a clear next step.

Custom Fit connects measurement with coaching. DEXA can show whether weight change came from fat or lean mass. VO₂ max can establish an aerobic baseline and training zones. Resting metabolic-rate testing can inform nutrition planning. Your trainer then turns those findings into a practical weekly program.

The program still has to fit real life. Hospital shifts, laboratory schedules, game-day traffic, school pickup, and business travel can all disrupt routines. Your coach can adjust session volume, provide independent workouts, and create a useful minimum plan for demanding weeks.

The result is a training system that is specific enough to produce progress but flexible enough to remain realistic.

Measure what matters, then use the result to decide what to train, how much to recover, and what to change next.

How the process works

From first conversation to a program you can sustain.

Joining a nearby gym can provide equipment, but equipment alone does not decide what to train, how to progress, or how to adapt when life changes. Custom Fit gives Mission Bay clients a coached process and a clear next step.

The process creates continuity between appointments. Your trainer knows what happened in the previous session, what needs to progress, and what should change when sleep, travel, work, soreness, or sport volume affects the week. That continuity also makes independent training more useful because the workout fits a larger phase instead of standing alone. Over time, the goal is to help you understand the program well enough to recognize progress, communicate useful feedback, and train with greater confidence. Coaching remains personalized, but it should also make the gym feel clearer and more accessible rather than mysterious. The same framework can continue through schedule changes, new goals, and different seasons of life without forcing you to restart from zero each time, with less friction and more useful feedback.

01

Define the real goal

Discuss your training history, schedule, previous injuries, preferred activities, and what progress would actually look like. The team uses that information to recommend a coach and the most practical studio.

02

Establish useful baselines

Depending on your needs, the starting point may include movement assessment, DEXA body composition, VO₂ max, RMR, or nutrition review. Testing is selected because it can guide a decision—not simply because it is available.

03

Train with progression

Your coach teaches the program, tracks load and repetitions, and adjusts exercises around recovery and real-world constraints. Independent sessions can be added when they improve consistency and confidence.

04

Review and adapt

Progress is evaluated using the measures relevant to your goal: strength, consistency, body composition, aerobic fitness, movement quality, or performance outside the gym. The next phase is then built from evidence.

04

Bike or run commute

A bike ride or easy aerobic commute can complement the session, but tell your trainer when the trip adds meaningful training load.

−20 lb fat+ approximately 2 lb lean mass over a longer-term program
A Custom Fit client story

Body composition changed in the intended direction—not merely downward.

One Custom Fit client used consistent strength training, nutrition support, and repeat DEXA scans to follow progress over approximately two years.

The scans showed nearly 20 pounds of fat loss alongside an increase of approximately two pounds of lean mass. A conventional scale would only have shown the net change and missed the most useful part of the result.

Individual outcomes vary, but the example shows why body-composition data is most useful when paired with a progressive plan and enough time for meaningful adaptation.

Company-wide client example. Individual outcomes vary. Testing results should be interpreted in context and are not a guarantee of future results.
